Replace Missing Teeth with Dental Implants

Dental implants are a fixed solution for replacement of spaces in the mouth. It involves a small surgical placement of a titanium root into the bone where the tooth space is and the attachment of a crown. This works independently of adjacent teeth without the need for stresses or loss of healthy tooth tissue on adjacent teeth. The design of theses implants is extremely important to ensure a cleansable design. The Dental implants are not susceptible to decay but are susceptible to an equivalent form of periodontal disease, called periimplant disease. The cleaning maintenance is extremely important. The dental implants can come in the form of a single implant crown, implant bridges, full implant reconstruction or implant assisted dentures.

Are Implants Suitable For Me?

Everyone has different requirements, so this depends on each individual case. During the consultation we will discuss all factors and the criteria that needs to be met. All our consultations will be made personal, and you will receive a letter summarising all the information that has been discussed.

How Is The Procedure Carried Out?

Implants are carefully placed into a socket, through a healthy part of the patient’s jaw. Healing usually takes between 4-6 months. During this healing period the bone fuses around the titanium implant. Once healing has taken place the laboratory will construct either a removable/fixed denture, single tooth crown or fixed bridge.

How Are Dental Implants Fitted?

Dental implants are typically fitted in two stages: the root, and the crown, which is the part that looks like the tooth. The root is fitted first with a minor surgery that only requires local anaesthetic, and when this has healed over the coming weeks or months, we place the crown.

Who Is Suitable For Dental Implants?

We can talk you through your suitability at your initial consultation, but generally speaking those with a healthy mouth are suitable for dental implants. If your jawbone or gums aren’t ready to receive your dental implants, then we can take a different route to treatment and offer different options.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

If you take care of them properly, then your dental implants could last for the rest of your life. They need the same care and attention that your natural teeth do, which is brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, and regular dental check-ups, which will help them to last for many happy years.
